Woman's Shelter - 

Graduation Project

      On Rumelikavağı neighborhood after site analysis, The historic “İskele Meydanı” also known as “Midyeciler Çarşısı” inspired the project consept. This concept has aimed to make domestic violence victims to think like living in their own home not in a rehabilitation center or well secured place. That’s the reason of an idea to create a peacefull space parameters like as reference of Midyeciler Çarşısı- İskele Meydanı. Space were deeply analyzed and to inspire the concept of design. The main analyze is to observe square-street relations and then with the buildings solid mass and circulation areas which represents courtyard and also void. After the space analyze, on project site, The main sketches were to create a space which have some identity of historic Midyeciler Çarşısı’s inside it. Mass settling are created according to street-mass relation of İskele Square.                     The main aim was to have different kind of masses have distributed around main courtyard which comes together in terms of create different street axe directions. Every street is dead-end street and this idea is comes from also Rumelikavağı district inside. There are lots of dead-end streets around site. However, dead-end street doesn’t mean a terrible or ugly spaces. At the end of streets, there would be a nice semi-open chatting or pergola looking spaces would be created and We know woman like chatting or gossiping with each other and evaluate these places with generaly what women nature needs is usefull way. The main aim is to create them a space that can feel like living inside a neighborhood not a closed prison-looking or feeling places. These concept is aimed to make domestic violence victims to think like living in their own home not in a rehabilitation center or well secured place.
